11 foods to reduce the risk of cancer

Cancer cells are cells that have transformed from being normal to being abnormal due to series of factors both within the cell and its microenvironment. They escape being controlled by your body hence grows uncontrollably and multiply infinitely. This leads to the formation of a tumor(cancer).
This blog is to give you a list of foods that can help reduce your risk of getting cancer.

The right food combination can help your immune system to fight cancer manifestation. These foods help you reach and maintain a healthy body weight as carrying extra pounds increases risk of cancer development. As such most of these foods are vegetables, fruits,lean meat,fish etc

List of foods

1)Tomatoes

Studies have shown that eating tomatoes reduces the risk of many cancer types including prostate cancer. There is a suggestion that processed tomato products such as paste help boost the immune system to fight cancer. Tomatoes contain phytochemicals called lycopene which is an antioxidant. Research shows that lycopene may be involved in preventing cancer development.

2)Green tea

There has been laboratory studies that links tea to the possibility of slowing or preventing cancer in the breast ,prostate,pancrease,bladder etc. But this is still undergoing scrutiny and it’s not confirmative.

3)Grapes

They contain a substance known as resveratrol which has an antioxidant property. This property together with its anti-inflammatory property helps reduce the risk of cancer.

4)Water

This may protect you against bladder cancer since it dilutes potential cancer causing substance that maybe found in your bladder. Drinking lots of water drains the bladder regularly thereby reducing the contact time between these cancer agents and the bladder.

5)Beans

They contain phytochemicals which protects the cells from damage which otherwise could cause cancer as shown by research. These chemicals can slow down cancer growth and also prevents metastasis.

6)Cabbage

The cabbage family such as broccoli, kale,bok choy,cabbage etc helps your body fight against cancers such as lung cancer,breast cancer,cervical cancer etc. They contain abundance of fiber,folate etc which may help protect against cancers of the mouth,skin etc.

7)Berry

Berry contains a potent antioxidant called ellagic acid which fights cancers by inhibiting cancer cell growth and also deactivates certain oncogenes(cancer causing substance). Also gets rid of free radicals reducing the risk of cell damage which prevents possible cancer development.

8)Garlic

Garlics contain sulphur that may reduce or stop oncogenes from accumulating in your body, destroy cancer causing cells and hasten DNA repair. Studies and research suggests onion to reduce the risk of cancers like stomach cancer.

10)Carrots

They contain beta-carotene shown by research to protect cell membrane damage from toxins as well as inhibiting cancer cell growth. They also contain certain phytochemicals and vitamins that reduce the risk of cancer of the breast,stomach,esophagus etc. The falcarinol in carrots is seen to exhibit anti-inflammatory properties which reduces the risk of cancer.

11)Whole grain

Contain lignans and saponins which acts as antioxidant and keeps cancer cells from proliferating respectively.

Conclusion

Various cancer forms are caused by different oncogenes and different microenvironmental substances. The accumulation of these oncogenes can be controlled by certain food items. There has not been any single food that protects against cancer completely but with a good combination of certain food items such as those listed above can reduce the risk of cancer development.
